Unity and Diversity in the Workplace: Pride 2026 at CKT

Comyn Kelleher Tobin LLP recently welcomed Dr. Fiachra Ó Suilleabháin, Senior Lecturer at University College Cork, for a Pride 2026 workshop on unity and diversity in the workplace.

The talk provided an overview of the development of LGBTQ+ rights in Ireland, highlighting the significant progress achieved from the decriminalisation of homosexuality in 1993 to the introduction of marriage equality in 2015. These milestones reflect a broader shift in Irish society towards greater acceptance and equality.

It was noted, however, that while many legal and structural barriers have been addressed, challenges continue to arise in more subtle forms within everyday interactions and workplace environments. The discussion focused on the evolving nature of bias, with particular emphasis on unconscious bias and its potential impact on individuals’ experiences.

Dr. Ó Suilleabháin also referenced the concept of intersectionality, recognising that diversity encompasses a range of characteristics, including sexual orientation, gender identity, ethnicity and background, and that these can intersect in complex ways.

The workshop concluded by reaffirming the importance of continued awareness and reflection in fostering inclusive and respectful working environments.

CKT would like to thank Dr. Ó Suilleabháin for his insights and all colleagues who attended the session.
