At CKT, Pride Month offers an opportunity to reflect on the relationships CKT have built and the communities we support. We value our ongoing connections with LGBTQ+ individuals and organisations, and we are committed to fostering inclusive communities throughout the year, not just during Pride.
Supporting the Growth of Gay Project Cork
In October 2024, we were delighted to celebrate a major milestone with Gay Project Cork – the successful purchase of their new community centre in the heart of Cork City. This dedicated, safe, and inclusive space will serve as a vital hub for LGBTQ+ individuals and allies.
CKT undertook the conveyancing for the project as part of our pro bono work, and we also had a member on the board Gay Project.
Empowering the Community Through Legal Guidance
In May 2025, CKT were proud to participate in Empowered Choices: LGBTI+ Future Planning, a free community event hosted at the South Parish Community Centre. Organised in partnership with Gay Project, LINC, and the HSE Cork South Community Work Department. The event aimed to support LGBTQ+ individuals to make informed decisions about their futures.
CKT led an engaging session on:
- Assisted Decision-Making
- Will Writing
- Enduring Power of Attorney
The evening sparked meaningful conversations and provided practical legal tools to help attendees plan for the future with confidence.
Fostering Inclusion from Within
At CKT, we believe that allyship begins with understanding. As part of our ongoing commitment to learning, we were honoured last year to welcome Dr. Fiachra Ó’Súilleabháin, Assistant Professor at UCC and a leading voice on LGBTQ+ family rights, for an in-house talk on diversity, inclusion, and the legal and social challenges faced by LGBTQ+ individuals and families.
Dr. Ó’Súilleabháin’s presentation offered a powerful exploration of adoption, surrogacy, and fostering for LGBTQ+ couples, as well as a historical overview of gay rights in Ireland. His insights continue to inform our approach to inclusive legal practice and community engagement.
Pride Celebrations in Ireland
While Pride Month is internationally recognised in June, commemorating the Stonewall Riots of June 1969, Pride events in Ireland are spread across the summer months, with different regions marking the occasion at different times.
- Dublin Pride takes place in June, with the 2025 parade scheduled for this coming weekend.
- Youghal Pride by the Sea was held on 21st June.
- Cork Pride Week will run during the last week of July, culminating in the Cork Pride Parade on Sunday, 3rd August 2025, over the August Bank Holiday weekend.
These events offer opportunities for communities across Ireland to recognise and celebrate LGBTQ+ identities, history, and progress in ways that reflect local traditions and timelines.
Looking Ahead
Acknowledging progress and celebrating community is important, but our focus remains on long-term engagement. We’re grateful for the opportunities we’ve had to contribute, and we look forward to continuing our work through legal support, partnerships, and ongoing learning.
