CKT strengthen commitment to sustainable working by welcoming UCC speaker

In a bid to strengthen a commitment to sustainability, Comyn Kelleher Tobin welcomed Sarah Ryan Enright, a PhD researcher from UCC to speak to employees on Marine Environmental Law. The talk, which was attended by Solicitors, Legal Executives and support staff, focused on Marine Protected Areas (MPAs) that have been designated around the world offering varying levels of environmental and natural resources protection.

Throughout its history CKT has sought to achieve the firm’s business objectives of providing the best legal advice to clients while acting as good corporate citizens. With what it means to be a good corporate citizen constantly evolving, the firm is constantly looking at ways to educate employees on being ethically and environmentally conscious individuals.

Sarah, who holds a BSc Zoology and MSc Marine Biology from University College Cork, is currently studying a PhD funded through Science Foundation Ireland and the Department of Education and Learning as part of a cross-border collaborative study aimed at identifying mechanisms of reduced performance of farmed Atlantic salmon progeny relative to wild under natural conditions. She spoke to CKT employees about MPAs and the more general problem of a lack of harmonisation in implementing international environmental and natural resources law.

Last year, CKT announced that the firm achieved the Q9000 gold standard from the Institute of Legal Research and Standards for risk and quality management systems for the fifth year in a row.
